Rules of the Road
Our ten guiding philosophies, rituals, and travel tips.
1. Start strong.
Every journey begins with an oat milk latte and the flakiest pastry we can find. It’s tradition. It’s fuel. It’s joy. Bonus points if you try a new coffee shop or bakery each morning.
2. Take the scenic route.
Even if it adds 40 minutes. Especially if it adds 40 minutes. Also, always turn onto any “Shore Road”.
3. Pack it in, pack it out.
Leave no trace; whether it’s a forest trail or a city sidewalk. Respect the places that welcome you.
4. Front-load your days.
Cram your must-do’s into the first two days. Restaurants, hikes, IG photo ops. Leave plenty of space in the schedule for detours, naps, farm stands, and serendipity. Pro-tip: While planning, “heart” all of your favorite finds in Google Maps. That way, when you’re out exploring you can easily find the best places nearby to grab a bite. Takes out the guesswork and allows for more spontaneity.
5. Talk to strangers.
Ask the barista where they eat lunch. Compliment someone’s dress. Magic happens in the small conversations.
6. Walk whenever possible.
You’ll see more. You’ll remember more. Your feet will complain, but they’ll get over it.
7. Always overpack snacks.
Hangry ruins moments. Sandwiches and chips save lives.
8. Prioritize sunrise or golden hour.
Photos are better, streets are quieter, and the world feels like it’s just yours.
9. Respect local rhythms.
Eat when they eat. Siesta if they siesta. Don’t expect everything to feel like home; it shouldn’t.
10. Leave at least one thing left undone.
A reason to return is always the best souvenir.
